We have several biomechanical screening tests that we use as a part of your treatment pathway. We do the screening once the main pain has settled, to assess the factors contributing to your pain or dysfunction. With long term pain, the body can develop compensations and abnormal movement patterns, and these need to be identified.

Given that a picture paints a thousand words, often it is helpful to our clients to see on a screen that one side of the body moves differently to the other, and that compensations are occurring.

Depending on the goals you have set, the most appropriate Biomechanical screening will be chosen by your treating Physiotherapist. For example, the Functional Movement Screen (FMS) looks at seven different movements, and is designed to identify lack of stability, strength and flexibility. It can also be used to predict the risk of injury or re-injury, so may be used if your goal is to return to sport.

Other biomechanical screenings include the Y Balance for the upper and lower limb, to assess flexibility and balance, and the posturescreen, to identify postural habits and abnormalities. Video analysis while walking or running on the treadmill helps us to detect faulty movements or asymmetries in our Revolution RunLab programme.

The biomechanical screening forms an integral part of your treatment Pathway, as it helps us identify the primary causes of your pain, so that we may move beyond just treating the symptoms.

It also allows us to select the best exercises that will specifically help you with your rehabilitation.
